“A Sea Ball” is a limited edition playable/displayable basketball designed by Maria Molteni and featuring original artwork from their site-specific basketball court installation “A Sea Bird.” Located just down the street from the ICA, the court, completed with members of the Boston-based queer collective New Craft Artists in Action, pays homage to the former Our Lady of Good Voyage Chapel. Molteni, also a member of a local ocean rowing team, often incorporates nautical imagery and ocean lore into their artworks, hailing the “Sea Bird” in their personal mythology. Avem Maris Ascendit translates to Sea Bird Ascends - her magical silver feather will give flight to your free throw!
