For 20 years, artist Mickalene Thomas has been celebrating the power of the female gaze. Her practice explores femininity, race, culture, sexuality and beauty, through artworks which empower and offer new avenues for representation. Thomas is an award-winning multidisciplinary artist whose work has yielded instantly recognizable and widely celebrated aesthetic languages within contemporary visual culture. She is known for her elaborate portraits of Black women composed of rhinestones, acrylic, and enamel. This deck is a reproduction of Thomas's photographic portrait of the same name. It is produced by The SKATEROOM in collaboration with the artist.
